GRANTOWN ON SPEY celebrates its 250th birthday this week. On 28th June 1765, John Grant, a weaver from Rothiemurchus, watched the laying of the first stone of his new linen manufactory. It was the first of several new buildings in James Grant of Grant's new town - Grant Town - now one of the best preserved and most interesting of all the planned towns and villages in Scotland. Exactly 250 years later Grantown will mark this event and highlight all that this vibrant community has since become with a high profile festival and themed events taking place throughout the week. This is a special week that involves the whole community. Happy Birthday Grantown on Spey
